From Jonathan.Doig at dnr.nsw.gov.au Thu Nov 29 16:17:59 2007 From: Jonathan.Doig at dnr.nsw.gov.au (Jonathan Doig) Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2007 15:17:59 +1000 Subject: [Cycleway] Taren Pt cycleway opposed by residents - please email Council today In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <474ED827.E8E7.0083.0@dnr.nsw.gov.au> Cyclists in and around the Shire Sutherland Council proposes to extend the Woolooware Bay cycleway as part of a masterplan for the Taren Point Shorebird Reserve ( http://sharkbike.org.au/docs/taren_point_shorebird_reserve_d_1-0.pdf ) at Woodlands Road (see map below, with cycleway in red). The 2.5m wide concrete path will be shared for cycling and walking and has been designed to have minimal impact on the shorebirds. So far Council has had only negative feedback to the proposal from a handful of local residents. Please take a moment to send a quick email now to bgraham at ssc.nsw.gov.au to let the Council know you support the proposal because it will: * Be a vital connection for residents cycling and walking along the Botany Bay trail * Provide a scenic open space for passive recreation including birdwatching * Provide much-needed habitat for endangered migratory shorebirds You could point out that cyclists are locals, who pose absolutely NO security threat to residents. In fact quite the reverse - opening the area to cyclists and pedestrians increases community surveillance and makes the area safer.
